An independent, third-party inspection ordered by the buyer. The seller doesn't pay for it, and the report belongs to you.
What it covers
A standard PPI is a hands-on review of the car at the seller's location, usually 1–2 hours on a lift where available.

What it costs
Typically $150–$400 depending on vehicle type, region, and how far the inspector has to travel. Exotic, classic, and diesel vehicles run higher.
How to order one
Agree with the seller on an inspection window before sending any money, then book an inspector near the car's location. Never wire funds on a car you haven't had inspected or seen in person.
