Unsmoggables connects buyers and sellers of modified, tuned, swapped, deleted and off-road vehicles — cars that are stuck in one state but worth real money somewhere the rules are different, where it can be street legal.
What Unsmoggables is
Unsmoggables is a place to list and find cars that are controlled by emissions — vehicles that won't pass a smog or emissions test where the owner lives, but are perfectly legal, valuable and drivable somewhere else. Even vehicles with back fees can be sold in another area and the fees are dropped.
That covers modified and tuned cars, engine-swapped builds, deleted diesels, lifted trucks, and off-road-only vehicles. A car that's stuck in one state can be worth real money to a buyer in another state where the rules are different.
Who it's for
Sellers with a car they can't register, inspect or sell locally because of emissions — but don't want to give it away for parts. List it where buyers in emission-free or looser-rule states are looking.
Buyers in counties or states without emissions controls who want a good deal, specific build, a deleted diesel, a swapped project, or a truck that's hard to find locally.
What we do
We host listings, pass messages and offers between buyers and sellers, and show a phone-verified badge when someone confirms a number with a code we texted.
We take reports about bad behaviour and remove listings or suspend accounts for misrepresentation, stolen or unauthorised vehicles, harassment, and scam attempts.
What we don't do
We don't take payment for a car, hold anyone's money, or handle title, registration or DMV paperwork. Payment and paperwork stay between the two of you.
A phone-verified badge is not an identity check, background check, or any promise about the person, the car, or the sale. Treat every deal the way you'd treat one from a classified ad.
Why a marketplace like this matters
Emissions, inspection and registration rules differ by state and change over time. A car that's fine to own (and running and driving) and, sell and register in one place may not be in another — so cars that look worthless to one buyer can be exactly what another is searching for.
Unsmoggables connects those two people. The car finds a home where it's legal and wanted, and the seller gets a fair price instead of scrapping something with plenty of life left in it.
Staying safe
Payment happens directly between buyer and seller — cash at a bank, a cashier's check verified with the issuing bank, or a wire you initiate yourself. Never use an escrow site, link or invoice sent by the other party.
Check the VIN on the car against the title and the door-jamb label before money changes hands, and confirm there's no lien. The title transfer, bill of sale, smog or emissions paperwork and DMV filing are handled by the two of you under your state's rules.
