Privacy Policy

Unsmoggables (“we,” “us”) is an online marketplace where people list vehicles for sale and contact each other. We do not take payment for a vehicle, hold anyone’s money, or handle title paperwork. The Service is operated by Unsmoggables. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

Account information. Name, email address, phone number, and a password you set to sign in.

Listing information. Details you provide about a vehicle — make, model, year, VIN, mileage, title status, location, price, and photos.

Phone verification. If you choose to verify your phone number, we store the number and the fact that it was confirmed. We do not collect government ID, dates of birth, tax IDs, or bank account details.

Payment information. None. Buyers and sellers pay each other directly, so no card or bank details pass through the Service.

Location information. The location you provide for a listing is snapped to a coarse grid before it is shown publicly, so a buyer sees an approximate area, not a precise address.

Usage and device information. Basic information such as how you found the site, the pages you view, and the browser or device you use. We do not sell this information.

2. How we use your information

  • To operate the marketplace — create listings, match buyers and sellers, and pass along offers and messages.
  • To confirm a phone number and reduce fake accounts, spam, and impersonation.
  • To send you messages between buyers and sellers, and account alerts by email.
  • To send you text messages — sign-in security codes and account alerts — but only with your separate opt-in (see section 6).
  • To investigate reports, resolve disputes, and keep the marketplace safe.
  • To comply with legal obligations and to respond to lawful requests.

3. How we share your information

We share your information only as needed to operate the Service and as required by law:

  • Between buyer and seller. Once an offer is accepted, the parties see each other’s names and the details needed to arrange the sale themselves. Contact details are masked in stored messages and only revealed when both sides connect.
  • Service providers. Companies that help us run the Service (email, text messaging, hosting, analytics) under instructions to use your information only for our purposes.
  • Legal compliance. Where required by law, court order, or to prevent fraud or harm.

We do not sell your personal information. Money for a vehicle never passes through us, so we share nothing with an escrow company or title service — if you choose to use one, you deal with them directly and their own privacy policy applies. If you buy an optional paid add-on, such as featuring a listing or a vehicle history check, your card details go directly to our payment processor, Stripe, under its own privacy policy; we receive only what the purchase was for, the amount, and whether it succeeded.

4. Data minimisation and masking

We apply privacy controls to the information we display. Vehicle identification numbers are masked in public views. Listing coordinates are snapped to a coarse grid so a buyer sees an area, not a street address. Contact details in messages between buyers and sellers are masked in stored records and revealed only as a transaction requires.

5. Cookies and local storage

We use a small amount of local storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences (such as your notification choices). You can clear local storage in your browser settings, which will sign you out.

We use Google Ads conversion tracking to measure actions you take after clicking one of our ads, such as posting a listing. Google sets a cookie when you click an ad and reads it when the tracked action happens so we can see which ads produce results. This runs only for visitors outside the EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Quebec; visitors in those regions are not tracked by our ads tools. We do not sell data to ad networks. Learn more about Google's privacy practices.

6. Text messages (SMS)

We send text messages only to people who opt in, on our text message opt-in page. You can choose sign-in security codes (2FA), account alerts, or both. We never send marketing texts. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to cancel, or HELP for help.

We record your consent — the number, the categories you chose, the exact wording you agreed to, and a timestamp — so we can show it on request, as required for A2P 10DLC messaging.

7. How long we keep your information

We keep account information and the messages exchanged on the Service for as long as your account is open, and afterwards only as long as needed to resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and meet legal obligations. Listing photos and content are kept while a listing is active and removed after it is sold or taken down.

8. Your choices and rights

  • Notifications. Choose which emails and texts you receive from your account settings, or reply STOP to any text to opt out.
  • Access and correction. You can view and update your profile information from your account. Contact us for a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Deletion. You may ask us to delete your account and personal information, subject to any records we must keep by law.
  • Marketing. We do not send marketing texts. For any marketing emails, you can unsubscribe using the link in the message.

If you are a California resident, you may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know, delete, and opt out of the sale of personal information. Because we do not sell your personal information, the opt-out right does not apply, but the rights to know and delete are available on request.

9. Security

We protect your information with access controls, encryption in transit, and limited internal access. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, but we work to protect the information you give us.

10. Children

The Service is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will notify you through the Service or by email. The “last updated” date above reflects the latest version.

12. Contact

Questions about this policy or your information can be sent to support@unsmoggables.com. See our Terms & Conditions for the rules that govern using the Service.
